Get ready for a celestial double feature! In late July, two meteor showers will peak within 24 hours of each other, creating a rare and dazzling display. This week, Earth will pass through debris trails from two comets: 96P/Machholz, which causes the Southern Delta Aquariids, and 169P/NEAT, which births the Alpha Capricornids. While both showers will be visible, the Southern Delta Aquariids will be more active, with up to 20-25 meteors per hour, while the Alpha Capricornids will produce around 5 meteors per hour. To catch this spectacular event, find a dark location away from city lights and allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness for about 20-30 minutes. The best viewing will be in the Southern Hemisphere, where the radiant point will be almost overhead. But even in the Northern Hemisphere, you can see the meteor shower if there’s a clear view of the southern horizon. So, grab a blanket, a reclining chair, and get ready for a spectacular skywatching event!
